Let’s Talk Lumens!
The amount of lumens that you may need depends on where you plan on using it. Generally anything that you plan on using during daytime is going to need at least 2000 to 2500 lumen. What’s a lumen? A lumen is the measure of light that the projector emits. The higher the number, the brighter the light. More light means a brighter display and if you want to show something on a big screen outside in the middle of the day you are going to need something with some serious power behind it to beat the glare from ol’ BOB (Big Orange Ball). Typical home use however is going to involve movie night, game day, or even game night, due to the advent of more and more pc and console based family and co-op board games. Likewise, if you’re an on the go professional or student, and need to make a presentation its generally going to be indoors where lighting conditions can be adjusted as required. Despite this many portable projectors have a range of between 30-200 lumens depending on cost generally which provides plenty of light for indoor or low light environments.
Money talks!
If spending a mortgage payment or two on a TV doesn’t sound like something you enjoy then a projector might just be the thing you’re looking for. Most modern Home Theater projectors come standard with HDMI interfaces and 1080p. but at significantly less cost than a television. While the best projectors for home use run in the thousands, most are very affordable and still provide crisp clear pictures. For a modest projector for home entertainment you you can expect to pay anywhere between $300 to $800 depending on the brightness and options. Additional costs would include a projection screen and an audio system. But considering what you would save on buying the TV you may now opt to go for one of our Home Theater systems for a true Home Theater experience.
